Just realized my response was never posted b/c I didn’t put those 4 little characters in right above the box. That’s tricky cuz there’s no box to put them in! All that to say, I feel you. It is so important to have personal integrity. That’s what Pres O taught me during his campaign. It’s so important to hold fast to who you are. Ugh…so much growing to do!

ummm can you comment on the extra NYPD on the subway w/ dogs. I’ve been noticing them increasingly populating the tunnels over the past few months, especially during rush hours. Whatever happened to “if you see something, say something.” I think they should revise that to, “if you know something, say something.” Umm hi NYPD, I’d like a color alert or something? Red, orange, fuscia, etc. I thought that was the whole design of the color alarm thing. Beware. Danger in the subway…

Another topic to broach is why is it in ocuntries like Sweden, Switzerland and even Canada, artists are treated like professionals with something to offer society. Whereas in the US you’re treated as a commodity.

Love the outfit, love the earrings. Looking forward to more video blogalaciousness.

I love this! It’s my own little piece of Qimmie daily (don’t be jealie Jean, okay?! okay!). I say you talk about why in the devil people think you and Solange (at one point) had the same haircut, how you and Rihanna could be 1st cousins, and why Tyra is bitin’ French Vogue’s “blackface” campaign (as I like to call it). Discuss amongst yourselves…

Yeah, I’m real interested in reading that article and hearing what Ri has to say on her first TV interview with Sawyer. The whole situation is sad, but the only bright spot (I guess) is that it opens a dialogue about what goes on quietly in not just our community but everywhere.

    Oh, and nice vlog…

I don’t even know how to begin. THANK YOU! That was a fabulous addition to your website. To add to your observation, please know that verbal abuse is the prelude to the others. On my journey of self-development, I discovered that certain ways I was spoken to as a child by those who were left “in charge” left me with an acceptance of dysfunctional communication that prepared me to be too accepting of the manipulation that is very key emotional abuse.

Mental & emotional abuse can be overt, however, more often are very subtle and much more difficult to recognize and/or identify; therefore, leaving more lasting damage to the self-esteem because there are no visible wounds to nurse.

I would be so open to joining a forum to discuss these issues in more depth in an effort to share what ‘good’ and ‘healthy’ communication is as opposed to ‘negative’ and unhealthy. Many people may not even realize they are being damaged by an invisible enemy.

    BRAVO Q ~ I LOVE YOU, GUUURL!

Pay attention to any of your friends/relatives who are dissatisfied with their relationships. Total red flag. Without being judgmental or forceful, continue to offer your ear, your open arms, your home, your advice, etc.; let them know that you are an outlet if needed.

  • #18 written by sms

I think an unhealthy part of the reason the abused don’t speak out more often is the abuser may still be present and an active party in the abused life. That feeling of vulnerability, even if unjustified can be paralyzing. How do you convince someone that predator can’t prey on her once more – especially given that he was able to do it and escape justice in the past?

Dont go tryna change New York. Who you think you is?

  • #23 written by B. Michelle

When I lived there, I would always smile when I would see people in love on the train OR a mom holding her baby; I can’t help but think of a quote from one of my favorite movie’s, “Love is all around….” However, we just have to find it and embrace it. I used to try and find ways to crack myself up on the train when I was having a bad day, because so many other people looked downtrodden. NY-ers in general want to put up the facade of being “hard” and not looking like they give a damn… unfortunately, I think the facade seeps into the mental and epidermis eventually. Bravo to you and Vian for keeping hope alive! ;-*

When I rode the train (it’s nowhere near as frequent as it use to be, but nonetheless) I would always take on the emotion of whatever my destination invoked. If I was going home after a long day, I felt relieved; going to meet a friend, happy; on my way to work, dreadful. A lot of people don’t have happy destinations anymore. Work is a necessary evil, home isn’t what it used to be, some people don’t have homes to call their own. We are living in dark days and unfortunately the train doesn’t stop in Hawaii or The Bahamas. I’m sure if you went to JFK or LaGuardia and found yourself at the gates with “Destination Paradise”, the faces would look oh so much happier. Everyone enjoy your commutes the best you can.

That song is amazing, so true and so meaningful.

“I sat awake at 1:45am scrolling through my blackberry rolodex, contemplating the solution to my Loneliness.”
    - I know that feeling, wondering who to call, because you know that your phone isnt going to ring in the next god knows how many hours!!

“Loneliness tends to not sting as bad when you remember loved ones who are loving you even while you’re in your unloving plexiglass box.”
    - It is a big releif to know that there ARE people out there who love you and have their ears open for you..

Its strange how the human mind needs to to be occupied with worldly things, otherwise we drown in boredom and loneliness, people mask this with daily activities like shopping, going out, uni and work. if only we could transform the energy used in dwelling upon boredom into something positve and creativity.

To all those out there, the mind is a complex thing but just get out of your chair and do something, whatever it is, you dont need to be with someone all the time, you need alone time too to reflect on yourself. stay strong xx

There will be a telethon on Friday January 22nd @ 8pm on MTV, BET, ABC, CNN, FOX and a few other networks. Instead of buying that extra value meal at McDonalds, eat food you already have at home and donate that $5 or $6 to someone that doesn’t have that luxury.

I, too, have come to “terms” with my pronounced forehead and rather prominent eyes, lol. It’s funny… the same things that people constantly point out to us… are the same things that people love about us (that is what I have come to realize after 20 some odd years). :)
